Heritage and Championship Pedigree
St Anne’s Old Links Golf Club, established in 1901, is often overshadowed by its illustrious neighbor, Royal Lytham & St Annes, but it stands as a superb, authentic test of links golf in its own right. Located right on the Fylde coast, this 18-hole championship links (Par 72, Max Tees: approximately 6,942 yards) was originally laid out by Alex Herd, with significant refinements made by the great Harry Colt in the 1920s.
Colt’s work here created a strategic, classic layout known for its subtle ground movement and beautifully integrated bunkering. While not an Open host, St Anne’s Old Links is deeply connected to championship golf, frequently serving as an Open Final Qualifying venue and hosting prestigious national events, which confirms its high standard of conditioning and challenge.

Key Information
St Anne’s Old Links offers a classic study in how to create a challenging, exciting golf course on relatively flat linksland. The course features superb green complexes and truly fiendish pot bunkers, which are its primary defense and demand excellent tactical play. The routing takes advantage of the natural undulations and features plenty of gorse and thick rough to penalize wayward shots.
You’ll find yourself relying heavily on your iron play, needing to land the ball in precise corridors to set up approaches that avoid the deep sand traps. The most memorable holes often include the stretch running closest to the coast, where the Irish Sea breeze is most influential. This is a thinking golfer’s course; it requires a blend of power and finesse, particularly the ability to utilize the ground game, which is the hallmark of traditional links play. It’s a wonderful complement to the stern challenge of Royal Lytham, offering a slightly more relaxed, though no less rigorous, round of authentic links golf.

5 star service
What a brilliant service from them. Booked 1 night 2 rounds at Stoke by Nayland and everything was perfect. Their expertise is faultless and all 36 of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The staff at resort were amazing and so was the food and course. Highly recommend using this company and Ian is a diamond to deal with. 5 Stars plus lads.

Clubhouse Life and Seamless Access
The location of St Anne’s Old Links makes it an incredibly convenient and valuable stop on any Lancashire golf tour. It sits right next door to its famous neighbor, allowing for easy access if you are staying in the Lytham St Annes area. The clubhouse provides a traditional, welcoming atmosphere that respects the game’s history without being overly formal.
Visitors consistently praise the warm hospitality and the quality of the dining, making the post-round experience a pleasure. For the experienced golf traveler, playing St Anne’s Old Links provides a critical piece of the area’s golfing DNA and offers superb value for a course of its architectural quality and pedigree. Because it often has better visitor availability than the Open rota clubs, it’s an excellent choice for a dedicated two-round day or a high-quality “warm-up” round.
