The Sister Course's Distinct Character
Druids Heath, established in 2003, is the younger, wilder sibling to Druids Glen, offering a completely distinct golfing experience. Also designed by Pat Ruddy and Tom Craddock, this course climbs higher into the Wicklow hills, giving it a much more exposed, heathland feel that often plays like an inland links.
It’s a significant test, playing to a par 72 and reaching just over 7,200 yards from the competition markers. Unlike the floral tranquility of the Glen, the Heath is defined by sweeping vistas, rugged gorse, and severe elevation changes. This course offers an accessible, high-quality resort round, and travelers will find the conditions immaculate and the service level consistently high.

Key Information
The entire golfing narrative at Druids Heath is built around elevation and exposure. You’re constantly ascending and descending the slopes of the Wicklow mountains, which translates into challenging lies and spectacular tee shots. The design successfully marries a links feel, characterized by strategic bunkering and firm conditions, with the rugged inland landscape. Because of the course’s height, the wind is a significant factor here, requiring precise control over trajectory and spin, a skill the experienced golfer relishes.
The front nine is a demanding climb, often playing long and requiring accurate drives to avoid the rough. That said, the back nine is where the most memorable holes appear. The par-five 12th is a genuine monster, often playing directly into a stiff breeze, and many consider it a par six. You’ll find the par-three 13th to be the signature moment: it’s a dramatic downhill shot to a green protected by water, with a breathtaking backdrop of the Irish Sea. It’s a magnificent, demanding course that truly rewards creativity and power.
