This is a beautiful track, a quiet retreat that feels miles away from the city bustle, though it’s actually pretty convenient to everything. The course was designed by Mark McCumber and opened in 1993, instantly establishing itself as a premier destination for serious players in the area. It plays a challenging par 72, stretching out to just under 6900 yards from the back tees, though many experienced golfers will find the middle sets offer more than enough length and tactical nuance for a great day.
You’ll find it carries that classic, high-end private club feel even with its semi-private access structure.

The design here is pure parkland style, meaning you’ll navigate fairways lined with mature pines and oaks, demanding accuracy over brute strength, particularly off the tee. For many golfers, the round’s rhythm is set by the opening nine, which is almost deceptively gentle, allowing you to settle in and find your timing before things tighten up. The real character of South Hampton emerges on the back nine, which features several forced carries over water and a pretty stellar closing stretch.
It’s easy to see why the par five 18th is often called the signature hole; it’s a magnificent risk-reward opportunity. You’re asked to decide if you want to fly that water or lay up for a final green protected by bunkers, making for a pretty thrilling finish to any friendly wager. The terrain is relatively flat, allowing for a delightful walk, but the green complexes are wonderfully subtle and demand a precise short game.
