For many golfers, a trip to Ireland isn’t complete without a round at Royal Dublin, a championship layout with an incredible history that dates back to 1885. This is a classic, authentic links experience you’ll be walking, meaning it’s a wonderfully pure test of golf.
Designed by the great Harry Colt and later modernized by Tom Simpson, the course plays to a par of 72, stretching to over 7,200 yards from the championship tees. It’s a true traditional links experience located on Bull Island, an easily accessible nature reserve that feels world’s away from the busy city. It’s quite rare to find this caliber of traditional, challenging seaside golf so close to a major European capital.

Key Information
The defining character of Royal Dublin is its subtle challenge. Unlike some modern links that rely on dramatically mounding or blind shots, Royal Dublin’s genius lies in its relatively flat, yet impeccably conditioned, terrain and its strategic bunkering. You’ll find the design philosophy is about precision and thinking ahead, not simply raw power. The opening holes play more inland, easing you into the round, but the course quickly moves you out toward the sea, where the true examination begins.
The stretch from the 5th through the 8th is where the course shows its teeth, often directly into the prevailing wind, demanding long, accurate irons into well-guarded greens. That said, the back nine really holds the spotlight. The 16th, a long par-4, and the famous 18th, a par-5 that finishes near the grand clubhouse, are often considered the signature holes. The 18th, in particular, is a wonderful, demanding finish where your score is never truly safe. The atmosphere here is one of quiet tradition and deep respect for the game.
