Unexpected Arizona Details
Raven Golf Club in Phoenix offers a refreshingly unique take on Arizona golf. Designed by the acclaimed team of Gary Panks and David Graham, the course opened in 1995 and immediately set itself apart from the typical desert layout. It’s defined by over 6,000 mature pine trees, giving it a lush, parkland style reminiscent of courses found in the Carolinas or Midwest.
The course plays to a demanding par 72, stretching to just over 7,000 yards from the back tees. It is consistently rated highly for its exceptional service and immaculate conditions. It operates as a top-tier public course, ensuring easy access for travelers flying in, as it’s conveniently located just minutes from Sky Harbor Airport.

Key Information
The design philosophy at Raven is built around creating strategic angles and demanding controlled approaches, utilizing the towering pines and rolling terrain to brilliant effect. You won’t find the typical rocky desert waste areas here. Instead, you’ll encounter plush, rolling fairways that are generously wide but quickly penalize wayward shots into the dense pine clusters.
The core challenge of the course lies in its multi-tiered greens, which are quite large and feature complex internal movements, demanding a precise approach and excellent putting skill. That said, the routing is flexible, offering multiple tee options to make it genuinely playable for all skill levels. The front nine is beautiful, offering sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and the Phoenix skyline. Many golfers point to the 18th hole as the signature finish, a strong par four framed by pines and a striking water feature guarding the green, creating an exciting, risk-reward close to the round.
