The Timeless Art of Golf on Miami's Historic Tidal Links
You’ll find Normandy Shores Golf Club tucked away on its own island in Biscayne Bay, making it quite a special location in the Miami area. The original design debuted in 1928, giving it a rich history, but it’s the more recent celebrated restoration by golf architect Arthur Hills that truly cemented its reputation. Hills was careful to preserve the classic layout while updating the course to a challenging modern standard, particularly against the winds that sweep in from the bay.
It plays to a manageable par 71, usually stretching just shy of 6,800 yards from the back tees, though it plays much longer when the breezes pick up. This isn’t your typical resort experience; it’s a municipal course with a championship pedigree, welcoming both local players and seasoned travelers looking for a genuine golf test in a spectacular, accessible setting.

Key Information
Normandy Shores offers a distinct and frankly quite clever design philosophy that perfectly blends the historic Florida aesthetic with a tough, links-like challenge. It’s almost entirely surrounded by water and that flat, exposed terrain means that wind is the real architect here. You’ll find the front nine focuses on demanding, accurate tee shots that set up approaches to subtly contoured greens. That said, the back nine is where the course truly comes alive, demanding more creative shotmaking and courage, especially as you encounter the significant water features that frame nearly every hole.
The par-3 15th, for example, is a short but utterly intimidating hole that forces a precise carry over the water to a heavily bunkered green. It’s easy to see why experienced golfers love this layout; it rewards smart play and punishes careless aggression. The atmosphere is generally relaxed, but the course itself keeps you honest, offering a refreshingly simple and authentic feel away from the flashier resort golf circuits.
